Connected worlds are a megatrend of our future. Not only will more and more objects be smart and connected to the Internet, but our interaction with them will also increase.
In the Cross Innovation Class, Ströer relied on the input of interdisciplinary student teams to find new solutions for interacting with your out-of-home media.
The team of students from five different universities and colleges worked on the company's challenge in the Cross Innovation Class. Thanks to the different team competences, technically functional prototypes were created in just one semester.
The Ströer team developed an interactive out-of-home display that allows the viewer to interact with it. The gestures of people can be recorded anonymously using a sensor and machine learning. This means that movements, such as raising an arm, can be recognised and interpreted as such. This technology enables interaction with the display.
The technology behind the interactive display could also be used for citizen surveys. For example, digital advertisements could recognise approaching viewers and ask them a question: Voting would be done by raising the left or right arm, allowing the person to choose between two possible answers. Accessibility was also ensured: People with limited mobility can still take part in the survey by using a QR code.

"Through consistent interdisciplinary collaboration, the company's own challenges are analysed and addressed in a new way."
"The haptic presentation and the associated live experience bring the results to life."
In the Cross Innovation Class, students from three to six different universities work in interdisciplinary teams on the practical challenges of the project partners.
Cross Innovation Class #2 took place in the winter semester 2019/20 on the topic of Smart City Solutions.
