Cross-Innovation Get-Together: The House of the Digital World

Learning, exchanging, networking. What does innovation work look like when creative people and companies do things together?
 Cross Innovation Hub

At the next Cross Innovation Get-Together, we’ll be taking a look behind the scenes at the planned House of the Digital World (HddW). The centre is being built in Hamburg and will in future be run by the Bücherhallen Hamburg, the Hamburg Adult Education Centre and the Centre for School and Youth Information (ZSJ). The aim is to create an open space for digital education, culture and innovation that brings together different social groups and enables new forms of participation.

On behalf of the Ministry of Culture and Media, Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft, together with nextMedia.Hamburg and the Cross Innovation Hub, has supported the conceptual development of the project. Through a multi-stage strategy, foresight and co-creation process, the first pilot projects for the future programme design have emerged. At the get-together, we’ll be taking a closer look at the methods, tools and interim results from the project.

Together with the future operators and project managers, we will discuss how a vision can be turned into a concrete space for digital education, culture and innovation. The focus will be less on the results and more on the journey towards them: how do you develop programmes for very different target groups? How can digital participation, education and culture be brought together? And what role do creativity, forward thinking and interdisciplinary collaboration play in such transformation projects?

Programme

The evening will be hosted by Sebastian Metcalfe, Programme Manager at the Cross Innovation Hub. On the panel, he will be speaking with, amongst others:

  • Janina Beck, Deputy Project Manager at the House of the Digital World, Hamburg Ministry of Culture and Media
  • Henning Humml, Head of Programme at the House of the Digital World, Hamburg Public Libraries
  • Brigitte Witthoefft, Hamburg Adult Education Centre, Project Manager for the House of the Digital World

Together, they will provide insights into the development of the ‘Haus der digitalen Welt’ and discuss the challenges, opportunities and lessons learnt on the journey towards creating a new venue for digital participation in Hamburg.

Following the discussion, we’ll use a brief interactive activity to take a collective look at the evening’s topics. Afterwards, there’ll be plenty of time to discover new perspectives, make new contacts and engage in conversations beyond your own bubble. The five creative experts from our pool taking part – Ayla Gürbüz, Humam Abou Asali, Melanie Obrist, Tim Oelker and Oliver Heidorn – are all expected to be present this evening and are looking forward to the exchange.

About the Get-Together

Over snacks and drinks in an after-work atmosphere, the Cross Innovation Get-Together focuses on interdisciplinary exchange. After all, innovation rarely arises behind closed corporate doors. Systematically bringing together new perspectives, disciplines and sectors is at the heart of Cross Innovation – and that is exactly what we’ll be bringing to life this evening.

What you can expect:

  • Insights into the methods and processes of the Cross Innovation Hub
  • Practical perspectives from various formats in the panel discussion
  • An exhibition showcasing tools and processes
  • The chance to chat with companies, creative professionals and our team
  • Networking outside your own bubble – with snacks, drinks and a relaxed after-work atmosphere

By the way: The Get-Together is a new series of events where we meet regularly – each time with a different focus and different guests.

Target audience: Companies and organisations outside the creative industries – from SMEs to large corporations and public sector bodies – who want to experience cross-innovation in action and learn more about how we work.

Participation is free of charge, but registration is required.
